ABOUT THE LOCAL ELECTIONS

WHAT ARE THE LOCAL 2295 ELECTIONS?

Every 3 years, all Local Officers and Executive Board members are elected. Should an office become vacant during the 3 year term, the President has the authority to appoint Officers and Executive Board members with approval from the existing Executive Board.

WHO CAN RUN FOR OFFICE?

Any member who has been in continuous good standing with the IBEW Local 2295 for 24 months prior to the election date. Candidate must have the Local 2295 listed as their home Local on the date of the Nomination Meeting.

WHO CAN VOTE?

All members currently in good standing and has the Local 2295 listed as their home Local will be determined as an eligible voter and have their ballot counted on Election Day.

WHAT POSITIONS ARE UP FOR ELECTION?

President

The President shall oversee the Officers, Executive Board, and the Business Manager and hold them to the duties defined by the IBEW Constitution and the Local 2295 By-Laws. The President shall conduct orderly monthly Executive Board meeting and General Member meetings. The President shall have the authority to dismiss any Officer who fails to execute the responsibilities of their role and may appoint Officers with approval of the Executive Board.

Vice-President

The Vice-President shall hold the same privileges and responsibilities as the President in the Presidents absence.

Recording Secretary

The Recording Secretary is responsible for recording meeting minutes and reviewing all correspondence at the Executive Board and General Meetings.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall be responsible for looking after the finances of the Local 2295. They shall have exclusive access to bank records and will review all checks being issued after approval from Executive Board. While the Treasurer has access to confidential financial information, it shall be their duty to report any handling of Local funds that is not compliant with the IBEW Constitution and/or Local By-Laws to the President and Executive Board.

Business Manager/Financial Secretary

The Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Local 2295. They shall attend ALL Executive Board meetings as well as General Membership meetings and shall be on all negotiation committees. The Business Manager shall work to establish and maintain professional and constructive relationships with the Local 2295 membership as well as the companies that employ them. The Business Manager is responsible for adhering to the IBEW Constitution, Local 2295 By-Laws, and any other initiatives brought forward by the International Organization. While the Business Manager is trusted with extraordinary power and responsibility, they shall not be entitled to a vote in Executive Board meeting. They shall abide by all decisions of the Executive Board unless such decision would contradict the IBEW Constitution. The Business Manager shall also assume the responsibilities of the Financial Secretary which include responsibly managing the Local 2295 funds as outlined in the IBEW Constitution.

Executive Board - 7 Positions

The Executive Board acts as the Supreme Court of the Local 2295. Executive Board members are responsible for approving all bills and expenses on a monthly basis. Any and all changes or requests to change By-Laws, add new expenses, or to participate in fundraising campaigns shall first be approved by the Executive Board. So long as the decisions of the Executive Board are not in conflict with the IBEW Constitution, local law, or federal law, the Business Manager and Officers shall uphold such decisions.

WHAT CAN I DO NOW?

Our By-Laws state that our elections are to be conducted by secret mail-in ballot. Our database of addresses may not be accurate if you have relocated since completing your obligation form when you joined the Local 2295. You can contact our secretary Lisa at the office by phone are e-mail to update your information. As long as your mailing address is current, you can expect to get a notification by mail with information on the nomination process. 

WHO RUNS THE ELECTION?

The President shall appoint an Election Judge and up to two Election Tellers. Once the Judge is selected, incumbent and/or nominated Officers shall not have any business in the election process other than the Business Manager providing a current list of eligible  voters to the Judge before the ballot count. Tellers will act as witnesses and shall comply with directions from the Election Judge. The Judge shall be the only person with access to completed ballots, returned ballots, and unused/unsent ballots ad will be required to account for all of them. Only the Judge and Tellers will be allowed to retrieve returned ballots. Nominees may appoint a observer to see the process, but shall not be present during any of the steps of the election process. When the completed ballots are returned to the hall, they shall be contained in a sealed envelope or box. The union shall provide a private office for the Judge, Tellers, and any observers to conduct the tally of votes. The sealed envelope with completed ballots shall only be unsealed once the doors to the private office are closed and are ready to be counted. Once the count is complete, the Judge will present the results to the Executive Board.
